U.S. President Donald Trump announced today the appointment of Tom Barrack, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, as Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq.

Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social:

“I am pleased to announce that United States Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, who has done an outstanding job, will be appointed Special Presidential Envoy to Syria, as well as Special Presidential Envoy to Iraq, as we continue to strengthen our strategic cooperation with the governments of Syria and Iraq, and our relationship with both countries continues to grow.”

He added: “Tom will continue his duties as Ambassador to Turkey and will serve with the full support of the United States Department of State.”

Trump further stated: “We greatly appreciate the work Tom Barrack has done and his continued willingness to serve our country.”
