Tripartite statement: Upcoming consultations between Transitional Govt and NE Syria

A tripartite meeting was held in France between the Syrian Transitional Government’s Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shibani, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, and the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Park. 

The meeting concluded with a joint statement, as reported by SANA, in which the parties agreed on several points regarding Syria:

1. Rapid engagement in substantive efforts to ensure the success of Syria’s transitional process, guaranteeing the country’s unity, stability, and sovereignty over all its territories.

2. Commitment to joint cooperation in combating terrorism in all its forms and supporting the Syrian state’s institutions to address security challenges.

3. Support for the Syrian government in leading the political transition process, aiming to achieve national reconciliation and strengthen societal cohesion, especially in northeast Syria and Suweida governorate.

4. Holding a round of consultations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces in Paris as soon as possible to fully implement the March 10 agreement.

5. Support for efforts to hold perpetrators of violence accountable, welcoming transparent reports in this regard, including the recent report by the Independent National Committee tasked with investigating and addressing events on the Syrian coast.

6. Emphasis on ensuring that neighboring countries do not pose a threat to Syria’s stability, and, in return, Syria’s commitment not to pose a threat to the security of its neighbors, preserving regional stability.
