Transitional Govt. Forces carry out arrest campaign in Homs; its Countryside

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today that Transitional Government forces carried out an arrest campaign targeting 10 civilians from the Alawite sect in the village of Akrad al-Dasniya in the Homs countryside. Among those arrested were the owners of the only bakery in the area, before they were taken to an unknown location.

According to reports, the arrest of the bakery owners has led to a bread shortage affecting more than 4,000 people in the village and surrounding areas for the past two days, exacerbating the suffering of the residents amidst a complete absence of any official explanation regarding the reasons for the arrests or the fate of those detained.

Over the past few days, the transitional government forces have carried out arbitrary arrest campaigns in several Syrian cities, targeting numerous individuals. The most recent arrest was that of retired Brigadier General Adnan Y., the former head of the Criminal Security Branch of the former regime's forces in the Latakia countryside. He had previously undergone security settlements and recently returned from Lebanon. No information has been provided regarding the reasons for his arrest.
