Transitional Govt. continues to close Tabqa-Salamiyah road to travelers

The Syrian Transitional Government Forces have re-closed the Tabqa-Salamiyah road, which connects the North and East Syria Region with the Syrian interior, since Tuesday morning, sparking anger among travelers forced to use this vital route.

Forces of the Syrian Transitional Government, stationed at the Zakia junction checkpoint near the town of Athriya in the Hama countryside, have closed the Tabqa-Salamiyah road for the second time this month. This closure occurred after they had previously allowed traffic to resume on Sunday and Monday, following a 14-day hiatus.

On Tuesday evening, the checkpoints witnessed a public uproar among travelers, prompting checkpoint personnel to allow a limited number of vehicles to pass under pressure from citizens who had been waiting since the early morning hours. There was also news of the death of a citizen with a heart condition, who was en route to Damascus for receiving the medical treatment, as a result of the road closure.

In an escalating move, the Transitional Government Forces re-raised and reinforced the earthen barriers, closing the road once again to travelers.
