"To give Newroz its true meaning, national conference must be held"

After lighting the Newroz torch at the March 12th Martyrs Stadium in Qamishlo, and reading the message of leader Abdullah Ocalan on the occasion of Newroz, Aldar Khalil; the member of the co-presidency of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), delivered a speech in which he congratulated the people on Newroz, saying, "We bow in reverence before the struggle of the leader Apo and the martyrs. The spirit of Newroz has been ongoing since thousands of years, and we hope that Newroz will be a means of liberation from tyranny. For thousands of years, the Kurdish people have managed to protect themselves, and despite all the brutality they have been subjected to, they have reached this day thanks to heroes like Mazlum Doğan.” 

Newroz embodies the patriotism values and the peoples' fraternity 

He added: "The peoples have lit the flame of freedom together through their unity in the face of oppressors and against the tyranny of dictatorships. Newroz is not merely a celebration; it is the spirit of resistance and existence. Newroz was achieved thanks to shared life and unity. If we want to reveal the true essence of Newroz, it rejects discord. Newroz embodies the values of patriotism and the brotherhood of peoples." 

Call for a national conference 

Aldar Khalil continued, "Many have tried to change the meaning of Newroz, but its authentic spirit remains unchanged. As long as there is adoption and support, Newroz will continue to shine brightly. To protect this heritage, unity must be achieved, and we must develop a democratic Kurdish unity. For this unity to be realized and not remain merely a slogan, a national conference must be held, and a common force must be demonstrated so that we can protect ourselves against the existing chaos, wars, and crises. If we achieve this, we will become the vanguard of a democratic Syria. Then, the Kurds will become the pioneers of the democratic revolution in the Middle East."  

Newroz is no longer confined to the borders of Kurdistan 

Khalil emphasized that Newroz is celebrated in all four parts of Kurdistan, but it is no longer confined to the borders of Kurdistan; rather, it has transcended the borders. He said, "This signifies the pioneering spirit of resistance. Thanks to the martyrs, the leader, and our resistance, we will make this spirit a pioneering force for democracy." 

"As long as leader Apo is there, we will not be defeated" 

Shamsi Khan Gilo, speaking on behalf of the Martyrs' Families Council, said, "A new day, and a new life; the flames of resistance have been lit in all four parts of Kurdistan and throughout the world. Thanks to the resistance of the martyrs and the philosophy of leader Apo, we have reached this point. The enemy wanted to annihilate us, but we said, 'We are here.' The slogan of resistance has become a model for the world." 

She added, "From Mazlum and Khairi, from Imrali Prison, and from Qazi Mohamed in Mahabad, we congratulate you on Newroz. If Newroz has been celebrated in Istanbul and Damascus, it is thanks to the philosophy of leader Apo and the struggles of your children. We remember when we lit the fires, they arrested our children, but today we celebrate in freedom." 

She continued, "I kiss the eyes of that mother who raises the pictures of Mazlum and Khairi. We bow in reverence to the flags under which the martyrs were martyred. As long as the leader Apo and the mothers of the martyrs are existed, we will never be defeated. Resistance is life, and freedom for leader Apo. Happy Newroz."
