Tel Tamr meeting discusses new commune rules

The Tel Tamr city council in Jazira Canton organized an expanded meeting with co-chairs and commune members to discuss the operational mechanism and development of communes, in alignment with the resolution issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. 

The resolution focuses on enhancing the role of communes based on the social contract and designating Saturday as a day for commune activities. The meeting took place at the Kenir cafeteria in the city center, attended by dozens of commune members and administrators from civil society institutions.

Ahmed Haider,the Co-Chair of the Tel Tamr city council, opened the meeting, emphasizing that the new phase requires cooperation and a sense of responsibility. He described communes as the cornerstone of the democratic nation project, stating, “They must serve as a model for effective autonomous administration on the ground to achieve the interests of the people and support the democratic nation project.”

The meeting focused on explaining the new resolution concerning the operational mechanism of communes, which aligns with the principles of the new social contract. This includes promoting collective work within communes, developing administrative structures, ensuring the participation of women and youth, and representing all community components within the communes.

Participants discussed the current state of communes in Tel Tamr and the challenges they face, such as limited resources, the need for better coordination with the city council and service institutions, and increasing regular meetings with residents to address their issues.

The meeting concluded with recommendations, including increasing logistical support for communes to facilitate their service and social tasks, launching training workshops to familiarize new members with the operational mechanism based on the new social contract, and establishing oversight mechanisms to ensure the implementation of commune decisions.
