"Ansar al-Sunna" mercenaries threaten Safita residents

Mercenaries of "Ansar al-Sunna" issued threats through paper leaflets to the residents of Safita in Tartous, inciting the killing of their children, kidnapping of women, and destruction of their churches.

Residents of Safita in the Tartous countryside woke up this morning to paper leaflets signed by the "Ansar al-Sunna" mercenaries, posted by unknown individuals on several churches, shops, and neighborhoods in the city.

The leaflets contained explicit threats of killing, incitement to sectarian violence, and the destruction of places of worship.

The leaflets included provocative phrases openly calling for targeting civilians, specifically children and women, and destroying churches, based on an extremist rhetoric advocating for what it described as the "purification of the Levant."

Activists circulated images of the leaflets on social media, with one of the phrases stating: " Let Muslims rise with the sword of the Umayyads and cut off the heads of the misguided and worshippers of the cross... Spare neither old nor young... The time has come for the Levant to return to its people." As of the preparation of this news, no official statement has been issued by security or church authorities.
