Syrian Parliament sets tomorrow to announce al-Sharaa’s list of members

The Syrian Parliament (People’s Assembly) announced early today that the list prepared by interim government head Ahmad al-Sharaa, containing 70 members representing one-third of the parliament, will officially be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, according to a statement published through its official channels.

The announcement comes after a specialized committee completed a series of meetings and closed interviews conducted between June 15 and June 21 with more than 100 male and female candidates, in preparation for selecting the names to be appointed by the head of the interim government within the 210-member parliament.

According to the newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi, the interviews included academics, human rights figures, media professionals, activists, tribal figures, and representatives of various communities, as part of an initial screening process intended to consider overall balances, without providing final guarantees regarding selection.

Meanwhile, Syrian women’s organizations, led by Star Congress, continue to demand fair representation for women in parliament of no less than 50%, through protests, demonstrations, and peaceful activities in several regions.
