Syrian Intellectual Adonis joins global campaigns for leader Ocalan’s freedom

The Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan announced today that Adonis has joined its global platform supporting the million-strong campaigns advocating for leader Ocalan’s release.

In a message addressed to the initiative, Adonis wrote:

 “A Call for Freedom and Peace”

In a world filled with conflicts, the human being remains the primary concern.

Freedom of thought, human dignity, and the right of peoples to live in peace are not mere slogans — they are the foundations of any just future.

Today, as cultural and intellectual voices that believe in peace, we raise our call for the freedom of the international thinker  Abdullah Ocalan — not merely as a political symbol, but as a human being carrying a vision of coexistence, equality, and respect for diversity among peoples.

Freedom is not a favor granted by anyone; it is a natural right of every human being. What thinker Abdullah Ocalan demands today is the Right to Hope — the right to believe in the possibility of change through thought, not violence; through dialogue, not exclusion.

When we demand his freedom, we also demand freedom of expression and broader space for human understanding.

We believe that the path to peace begins with mutual recognition and genuine listening to the other. Peoples can build a new future only when they believe that justice is the foundation of peace.”

Adonis stressed that leader Ocalan’s case is not merely a political issue but a human one — touching the essence of dignity, intellect, and justice.

He added: “From his prison cell, leader Ocalan has offered a vision calling for coexistence, equality, and the transformation of pain into a new horizon for humanity.”

The Syrian thinker and poet called for leader Ocalan’s immediate release, urging all to join international efforts demanding his freedom and to uphold the Right to Hope as a universal human right for all who seek life and dignity.

Adonis concluded: “Freedom is not a slogan but an act of faith in humanity; hope is not weakness, but the strength of those who believe that justice is possible — and that peoples themselves determine the right to hope.”
