Syria opens 2027 Hajj registration for those born in 1959, later

The Hajj and Umrah Administration of the Syrian transitional government’s Ministry of Awqaf has begun receiving initial registration applications for the upcoming Hajj season as part of the stage designated for applicants whose acceptance will be determined through a lottery.

The administration said the stage covers applicants born on January 1, 1959, or later, with successful applicants to be selected through a lottery for 35% of Syria’s total Hajj quota for the 1448 AH/2027 season.

According to the announced schedule, initial registration will remain open until September 10, 2026, allowing eligible applicants to submit their applications within the specified period before the lottery is conducted and successful applicants are selected.

The stage follows the completion of the first phase, which the Ministry of Awqaf allocated to older applicants. It covered those born in 1958 or earlier, along with their companions, and ran from August 12 through August 25, or until the allocated number was reached.

The ministry had said that applicants accepted during the older-age phase are required to pay a first installment of $3,500, while the second installment will be determined later after contracts for accommodation, transportation, food and other services for pilgrims are finalized.

The lottery system means that initial registration does not constitute final acceptance for Hajj. Applicants will be entered into the pool allocated for the lottery, from which the specified number will be selected according to the mechanism adopted by the Hajj and Umrah Administration.

For the previous Hajj season, the Ministry adopted a system allocating 65% of Syria’s quota to older applicants and 35% to the lottery, with the aim of distributing Hajj opportunities within Syria’s allocated quota.

As for Syria’s quota for the 1448 AH/2027 season, the latest instructions did not include a final announced figure. Syria’s quota in the previous season stood at 24,500 pilgrims after it was increased by 2,000 visas.

The Hajj and Umrah Administration had previously announced several registration requirements, including that applicants hold a Syrian passport and have not previously performed Hajj, in addition to conditions concerning a male guardian (mahram) and health capacity, in accordance with the cases and exemptions specified by the ministry.

The administration urged those wishing to perform Hajj to make use of the designated registration period and review the official requirements and instructions before submitting their applications. It stressed that initial registration does not guarantee acceptance and that final acceptance depends on the lottery results and completion of the required procedures at a later stage.

Those wishing to perform Hajj are also advised to rely on the official announcements and channels of the Ministry of Awqaf and the Hajj and Umrah Administration and to avoid dealing with any entities or intermediaries claiming they can guarantee acceptance or secure a Hajj opportunity outside the official process.
