Downing of drone sparks fire near inhabited areas in the Hawler countryside

An official announced that a drone was shot down in the Soran Administration area of ​​Erbil (Hawler) Governorate, sparking a fire in the local vegetation and pastureland; no casualties were reported, and civil defense teams successfully brought the blaze under control.

Halkurd Sheikh Najib, the supervisor of the Soran Administration, stated on Thursday that the fire—which broke out last night in the village of Badliyan—was caused by the downing of a drone. He noted that firefighting teams subsequently managed to contain the fire.

Sheikh Najib explained that while the incident resulted in no loss of life, it caused damage to the area's vegetation and pastures.

Karwan Mirawdli, the Director of Civil Defense in Soran, stated that the fire consumed approximately 20 dunams of land, confirming that civil defense teams brought the blaze under control within about half an hour of commencing firefighting operations.

Mirawdli noted that the fire site was located approximately one kilometer from inhabited areas. Civil defense teams, in cooperation with local residents, continued working until morning to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.

This incident occurs amidst ongoing drone and missile attacks targeting various parts of Southern Kurdistan since the outbreak of the US-Israel-Iran conflict, raising concerns about the impact of these attacks on the safety of residents, agricultural lands, and pastures.

According to circulating statistics regarding attacks on Southern Kurdistan since the start of the conflict, the region has been subjected to approximately 983 drone and missile attacks, resulting in 32 deaths and 156 injuries.
