Suwayda death toll exceeds 1,472 amid military escalation

 The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the deaths of 1,472 individuals since the outbreak of clashes in Suwayda and its countryside on July 13 until the ceasefire took effect. Among them, 272 were executed on the spot, marking one of the bloodiest chapters in the region's history.

The Observatory reported that it was able to document the names of 22 Suwayda residents killed following the battles, while human losses continue despite the announced truce, highlighting the fragility of the calm and the lack of security amid the absence of monitoring or accountability mechanisms.

The war has also triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, with transitional government forces imposing a siege on the city and its countryside for over a week, leading to a shortage of water and an almost complete lack of basic food supplies.

Concurrently, hundreds of citizens took part in widespread protests across several villages and towns, rejecting the massacres and violations committed by government forces.

According to the Syrian Observatory, the death toll among Suwayda residents reached 698 people, including 145 civilians (21 children and 56 women).

Additionally, two journalists were killed while covering the clashes, and 272 people were documented as executed on the spot by security forces affiliated with the transitional government, including 12 women, 8 children, and an elderly man.
