Suspicious social media pages have been circulating news claiming that members of the Druze community in the city of Sweida are besieging mosques and preventing Sunni Muslims from performing prayers there.

These pages also promoted a video clip showing a large fire, claiming it broke out in the Bedouin areas of Sweida Governorate. However, data revealed that the clip was old, dating back to 2012, and was filmed in the city of Homs, confirming the intent of its publishers to mislead.

At the same time, rumors spread claiming that mosques in Sweida were under siege. However, information confirmed that this news was completely false and part of a systematic sectarian campaign that has been underway for several days with the aim of destabilizing the area.

In this context, the Nassar family, a Sunni community in Jabal al-Arab, issued a statement refuting these malicious rumors. They emphasized their deep roots in the mountain, their pride in its customs and traditions, and their historical partnership with the Druze community (Banu Ma'rouf) through good times and bad for more than two hundred years, considering them to be in the same trench.

The statement warned against attempts to sow sectarian strife through inflammatory publications claiming to besiege Sunni mosques and neighborhoods in the governorate, stressing that the Nassar family, from their social standing, rejects and denounces these false claims. The statement emphasized that the Nassar and Bani Ma'rouf families will stand united to protect religious sanctities and prevent any attacks on them, to prevent strife and preserve the unity of the mountain.
