Spiritual Leader of Druze calls for lifting siege on Sweida

Sheikh Hamoud Al-Hanawi called on the people of Jabal al-Arab and the free patriots to unite and stand firm against the siege imposed on Sweida, stressing that "the battle has become a matter of existence and fate for all the people of the mountain."

This was stated in a declaration today, Saturday, from the headquarters of the Spiritual Leadership in Suha Al-Blata, where Al-Hanawi criticized the transitional authority and its supporters, affirming that they have abandoned pledges and values and agreed to become "a drawn sword on the necks of the innocent," accusing them of selling the homeland in a "bargaining market."

He also reproached some tribes, questioning the absence of chivalry and loyalty, and reminded them of the mountain’s history in resisting the Ottoman and French occupations under the leadership of prominent national figures.

He pointed out that despite the siege, which included food, medicine, fuel, and the destruction of infrastructure, Sweida will remain steadfast and proud, calling on the locals to support one another by sharing food and caring for each other, emphasizing that the issue is no longer a political matter but a battle for survival. He renewed his commitment to the blood of the martyrs and the rights of the prisoners and the missing.

Al-Hanawi thanked the countries and peoples that supported the sect’s members, foremost among them Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, and called on the international community to bear its responsibilities by lifting the siege, opening humanitarian corridors, and investigating the crimes committed against the sect’s members.

He also warned against sedition, media warfare, and rumors, denying any agreements or communications regarding what has been circulated, and condemning the disrespect shown toward religious symbols. He criticized the Arab silence and media blackout concerning what is happening in Sweida.

He concluded his statement by renewing his pledge to stand firm and unyielding, refusing to bargain over the blood of the martyrs, affirming that "the mountain will remain unbreakable until victory and relief are achieved soon."
