Sources: YPJ to retain status as special units within interior ministry

According to sources, a meeting between members of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) leadership and the interior minister in the transitional government ended at around 12:15 a.m. The sources said the YPJ will retain its distinct status as special counterterrorism units within the Interior Ministry, while discussions on the matter will continue.

ANHA's private sources reported that the meeting, attended by YPJ leadership members Newroz Ahmad, Sozdar Haji and Khalisa Ayed, as well as YPJ Media Office spokesperson Ruken Jamal, and Syrian transitional government Interior Minister Anas Hassan Khattab, began at 11 p.m. Wednesday and ended at around 12:15 a.m.

Regarding the outcome of the meeting, the sources said discussions would continue and that the status of the YPJ would be treated as an exceptional case, in line with the particularities of the Kurdish region.

According to the sources, the YPJ is expected to retain its status as special counterterrorism units within the Interior Ministry. However, no final decision has yet been reached.
