Signing of "Constitutional Declaration" for transitional Damascus Authority

The "Constitutional Declaration Drafting Committee" in Syria, assigned by the Damascus Authority, submitted the draft today to its chairman, Ahmed al-Sharaa, who signed it.

Regarding its content, committee member Abdul Hamid al-Awak said during the press conference during the handover that it includes several key provisions, the most prominent of which indicates that the transitional period for the Damascus Authority will extend for five years.

It consists of "an introduction and four chapters, while maintaining the general provisions chapter unchanged."

According to Al-Awak, the declaration included "guarantees for women's rights and freedom of opinion," adding, "Islamic jurisprudence is the primary source of legislation."

It also stipulates that "the People's Assembly has the right to question ministers, with executive power being limited to the President of the Republic during the transitional period."

Awak stated, "The independence of the judiciary, the prohibition of exceptional courts, and the emphasis that the judiciary is subject only to the law. The declaration also declared the dissolution of the existing Constitutional Court, granting the President the right to appoint a new Constitutional Court."
