Shortage of medical supplies in Hasakah hampers patient admissions at al-Shaab Hospital

Al-Shaab Hospital in Hasakah city, within al-Jazira Canton, is experiencing a shortage of essential medical supplies and treatment doses required for patients, significantly limiting its capacity to provide healthcare services and receive medical cases.

In this context, the Medical Director of Al-Shaab Hospital in Hasakah, Dr. Salar Abdulwahab Abdullah, explained that the hospital is facing major difficulties in providing medical services to patients with thalassemia, those undergoing kidney dialysis, and cancer patients, due to the shortage of medical materials, amid ongoing threats of attacks on the region by factions affiliated with the Interim Government.

He pointed out the urgent need for surgical supplies, anesthetic medications, blood collection bags, as well as many other medical necessities required to ensure the continued operation of the hospital.

Dr. Abdullah added that the main power outage constitutes a major obstacle to delivering services to patients who require continuous oxygen supply, as well as to performing surgical operations and receiving patients in outpatient clinics.

Al-Shaab Hospital in Hasakah is in need of electricity generators to produce power after the main electricity supply was cut off from the cities of Rojava and all service institutions, following the takeover of the Euphrates Dam by Interim Government factions, which is considered the primary source of electricity for the city.

Dr. Salar Abdullah noted that the hospital currently has only one generator, while it requires two generators to meet actual needs. He added:
“We need power generators in order to operate the oxygen station and receive oxygen-dependent patients, whether those on ventilators, surgical cases, or patients who require continuous oxygen supply.”

He confirmed that the hospital is prepared to receive all medical cases in Hasakah city and is making every possible effort to provide healthcare services within the available capabilities.

Al-Shaab Hospital provides medical services to more than 1.5 million people in Hasakah city and its countryside, receiving approximately 1,000 patients and visitors daily in outpatient clinics and the emergency department.

The hospital employs around 470 staff members, including nearly 40 specialized physicians, in addition to nurses, administrative staff, and maintenance workers.
