Local sources from Swedia reported a serious deterioration in service conditions in the city of Shahba, resulting from the continued electricity outage affecting the city and surrounding villages for several days.

According to the sources, maintenance teams have been attempting for days to reach the village of Walgha to repair an emergency fault in the electricity network. However, they have been unable to do so because the area is under the control of the transitional government forces, which have refused to allow repair work to proceed.

This fault has led to a complete power outage in the city of Shahba, causing the suspension of water pumping, followed by the depletion of fuel at distribution stations. This, in turn, has directly resulted in the interruption of internet and telecommunications services in the city and several neighboring villages.

In the same context, local media sources, quoting the director of Shahba Hospital, revealed the “possibility that the hospital may go out of service” after electricity has been cut off for the fourth consecutive day, posing a direct threat to patients’ lives and undermining the ability to provide essential medical services.

In light of this situation, residents and the local community have issued urgent appeals for swift intervention to resolve the crisis, affirming that the city is living under a stifling siege amid the near-total loss of basic necessities of life and the continued inability to access the site of the electrical fault.

Swedia and its countryside are suffering from a suffocating siege imposed by the transitional government forces following the signing of a ceasefire agreement last July. This agreement came after massacres were committed against residents of the area, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, along with the arrest and disappearance of dozens of others.
