Serxwebûn newspaper ceases publication

Following the 12th PKK Congress and its decision to dissolve itself, in response to the call of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, Serxwebûn newspaper ceased publication.

Serxwebûn began publication in Northern Kurdistan on October 6, 1978, as the PKK's official newspaper. Its European editions officially began on January 1, 1982, and continued uninterrupted until its final issue. In its final issue (May 2025, No. 521), the newspaper announced the decision to cease publication.

In the latest issue, which included Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s vision for the 12th Congress, under the title "Insistence on Humanity Is Insistence on Socialism," the following information was published regarding the cessation of publication:

"Serxwebûn, the newspaper that has become the voice of contemporary Kurdish resistance, Kurdish heroes and heroines, free Kurds, Kurdistan, and the women's liberation revolution that marked the 21st century, ends its publication with this issue.

It is clear that the cessation of Serxwebûn is not the end, but rather an attempt to pave the way for a new beginning."

These efforts pave the way for new media outlets that publish and broadcast in accordance with ideological truth and democratic theory. Thus, the legacy of Serxwebûn, which left its mark on a historical era, will play its part within the new media organizations and institutions. The newspaper has become the voice of the heroic resistance of the Kurdish people and a true school that trained revolutionaries and patriots loyal to the Leader.
