Şengal Autonomous Administration commemorates August 3 massacre

Today, in a statement, the Autonomous Administration of şengal commemorated the victims of the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidis on August 3, 2014.

In its statement, the Autonomous Administration described the 2014 massacre as "the most horrific in modern times," and emphasized that the world remained silent while crimes of murder, rape, and mass enslavement were committed, targeting thousands of civilians, including women, children, and men.

It accused the governments of Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government of failing to protect the people of şengal, as Peshmerga forces withdrew without a fight, while the federal government stood by as a bystander, according to the statement.

It also pointed to the role of some regional countries, most notably Turkey, in supporting ISIS militarily and logistically, which exacerbated the scale of the disaster.

The statement emphasized that the timely arrival of the People's Protection Units (YPG), the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), and the guerrilla forces prevented a complete genocide against the Yazidis and praised the role of these forces in defending şengal and repelling the attack.

The statement emphasized: "We are here, and we are not finished, despite all attempts to break our will, our strength, and our struggle. After eleven years, we tell the world today that the strength that was formed from the womb of genocide will no longer be broken. Therefore, we call on all Yazidis to overcome the pain of the genocide, not to forget it, and to strengthen their organization to confront any further aggression."

The Autonomous Administration called on international powers to pressure the Iraqi government to recognize the genocide and recognize the democratic autonomous administration in Şengal as a legal and constitutional right, according to the Iraqi constitution. It noted that ignoring these demands means continuing the policies that contributed to the catastrophe.

At the end of the statement, the Administration called on the Yazidis in the camps to return to Şengsl, considering that their continued presence in these conditions is "an extension of the genocide in another form."

It also renewed its pledge to continue working to establish the rights of the Yazidis, to secure the Iraqi parliament's recognition that what happened in 2014 was genocide, to hold the criminals accountable, starting with ISIS and extending to those who paved the way for them and betrayed the Yazidis at the time, and to achieve justice
