Late last night, the Syrian capital experienced widespread security mobilization following the shooting incident, as conflicting reports emerged regarding whether the incident involved an assassination attempt or the targeting of a security patrol near Umayyad Square and al-Malki.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), security sources stated that a patrol affiliated with the security forces came under fire from an unidentified vehicle, which fled the scene. The sources added that security forces immediately launched pursuit operations and deployed extensively across the area.

Local media outlets and social media platforms circulated reports alleging an assassination attempt targeting the head of foreign intelligence, Abdul Rahman Dabbagh. Footage was also shared claiming to show him inspecting his escort team inside a Damascus hospital following the incident. However, a security source denied the accuracy of these reports.

The incident occurred amid a broad security deployment and tightened measures across several Damascus neighborhoods. As of now, the identity of those responsible for the shooting and their motives remain undisclosed.
