Security Council adopts resolution to extend mandate of UN force in Golan

The UN Security Council extended the mandate of the UN force in the Golan for six months, at a time when Israel reiterated its refusal to negotiate the fate of the plateau, despite expressing willingness to normalize relations with Syria.

The UN Security Council today unanimously adopted a resolution renewing the mandate of the UN Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan for six months.

Earlier today, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that Tel Aviv will not negotiate the relinquishment of the Golan Heights in any peace agreement with Syria.

In a press conference, Sa'ar explained that "Israel is interested in establishing formal diplomatic relations with Syria, but will not negotiate the fate of the Golan Heights in any peace agreement."
