SDF: meeting between SDF Commander, German Foreign Minister discussed developments in Syria

The media center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stated that the meeting between General Mazloum Abdi and the Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Foreign Relations Committee, Ilham Ahmed, with German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul, focused on developments in Syria, ways to continue counter-terrorism efforts, and support for the January 29 agreement with the government.

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement today regarding the meeting between the SDF General Commander, Mazloum Abdi, and the Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Foreign Relations Committee, Ilham Ahmed, with German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul. This meeting was part of a series of high-level official meetings by the Rojava delegation with international officials and leaders on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The statement read:

"On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, our General Commander, of the Syrian Democratic Forces, held a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul, during which they discussed developments in Syria, ways to support stability, and joint efforts in countering terrorism.

The General Commander expressed his gratitude to Germany for the opportunity to attend the conference, appreciating its continued support in the fight against ISIS, and emphasized the importance of ongoing international support to ensure the implementation and monitoring of the January 29 agreement, contributing to the stabilization of the region.

For his part, the German Foreign Minister praised the role played by the Syrian Democratic Forces in combating ISIS, expressed appreciation for the reached agreement, and affirmed that his country would do its utmost to support the agreement and follow up on its implementation in a manner that serves Syria’s stability.
