On Sunday, February 15, 2026, physicians at al-Mouwasat Hospital in Damascus, joined by healthcare workers from other medical facilities, organized a protest against a decision by the Ministry of Health of the Interim Government to cut their monthly salaries from approximately 1.7 million Syrian pounds to around 800,000 Syrian pounds equivalent to roughly $70.

Participants in the sit-in expressed strong dissatisfaction with the decision, stating that the new salaries are incompatible with current living conditions and the rising cost of living. They emphasized that the reduced pay does not reflect the scale of responsibilities borne by medical personnel.

The protesters called on the relevant authorities to reconsider the decision and to improve conditions for healthcare workers, warning that the continued deterioration of living standards could negatively impact the quality of medical services provided to patients.
