SDF launches investigation after death of civilian in Deir ez-Zor incident

In a statement released by its media center, the SDF expressed its deep sorrow and regret over the death of Majd al-Ramadan al-Hanshal in the town of al-Kasra, in western Deir ez-Zor countryside, following an unfortunate incident involving a patrol of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council.

The statement said that an immediate investigation had been launched, and the individuals involved were arrested and referred to the competent judicial authorities, ensuring that anyone proven guilty would be held accountable “without exception,” in accordance with military laws and regulations.

The SDF reaffirmed that protecting the people and defending their dignity and rights is a fundamental principle and a national duty that its members have upheld “through great sacrifices and blood” during the liberation of the region from terrorism and in the pursuit of building a safe, just society based on respect for the rule of law.

The statement stressed that this incident does not represent the values or principles of the SDF, describing it as an “individual act that is completely rejected and inconsistent with the forces’ mission and ethics.”

The SDF extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the victim’s family, commending their responsible and prudent response to attempts by some to exploit the incident to provoke strife and incitement. The statement noted that the family’s composure and the awareness of local residents reflect deep moral values and genuine social consciousness that have repeatedly contributed to preserving civil peace in the region.

The SDF concluded by affirming that justice will take its full course clearly and firmly, in respect for the rights of the victim and his family, and to maintain the mutual trust between the SDF and the local communities that it represents and stands alongside.
