The statement of the Syrian Democratic Council came on the sixth anniversary of the liberation of the city of Raqqa by the Syrian Democratic Forces from ISIS mercenaries.

Its text stated:

“The 20th of October this year marks the sixth anniversary of the liberation of the city of Raqqa, the capital of the alleged caliphate, from the most powerful terrorist organization at the hands of fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces with the support and assistance of the international coalition forces to combat ISIS.

This historic turning point culminated in the liberation of Raqqa. A heavy price in the blood of the daughters and sons of the components of the region within the Syrian Democratic Forces who did not hesitate to defend human and civilizational values and rid the world of the evils of this terrorist organization that horrified the world with its crimes and atrocities.

As we in the Syrian Democratic Council remember the martyrs who sacrificed in order to promote peace and tolerance, we congratulate the Syrian Democratic Forces, Raqqa, the Pearl of the Euphrates, and its people on this happy occasion that has become a model for civil life and coexistence.

Construction operations at all levels were the most important gains that restored life to Raqqa after years of oppression and darkness. Therefore, community and urban construction went hand in hand with liberation operations, and the daughters and sons of Raqqa proved their worth in administration, good governance, and protecting their gains.

In this regard, we must remember and salute the sacrifices and role of women, whether in the liberation within the Women’s Protection Forces affiliated with the SDF, and later their role in protecting and building Raqqa and restoring its splendor and prosperity.

We also note the continued danger of the terrorist organization ISIS through its cells and remnants and through the ideology that continues to find fertile environments. Therefore, we call on the international community to seriously engage in uprooting this organization and combating the legacy of the ISIS entity by addressing its remnants in the al- Hol and Roj camps and finding sustainable solutions for its members detained in the prisons of the Autonomous Administration.

We, as Syrians, must examine Raqqa’s experience for liberation and construction, and study the existing AANES model, as it is an environment repulsive to extremism and extremism, and incites participation and equality. We see that these are experiences upon which to build and meet the aspirations of the Syrian people in building a new Syria in which there is no place for extremism and tyranny.”
