SDC, German diplomats discuss stability in Syria

Representatives of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) briefed diplomats from the German Embassy in Syria on the current situation in the country and on the most appropriate approach to achieving stability and entrenching democratic governance, during a meeting held in Aleppo.

The meeting took place in Aleppo between SDC representatives, led by Jihan Mohammed, an administrator at the Council’s Aleppo office, and German diplomats including Tulia Odhran, Head of Near and Middle Eastern Affairs at the German Embassy, Alla Schindler, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Damascus, and Stephan Kamel, Political Affairs Officer at the mission.

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen a comprehensive political solution in Syria and mechanisms to consolidate the foundations of sustainable peace. The SDC representatives presented a detailed overview of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria as a model aimed at achieving stability and embedding democratic governance.

The meeting also addressed the March 10 Agreement signed between the Transitional Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with both sides stressing its crucial role as an institutional framework for achieving local stability and political transition.

Discussions further touched on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah Agreement, reviewing the main challenges hindering its full implementation and exploring means to support community reconciliation efforts at the local level.

Both parties emphasized the importance of ensuring full and equal participation of all Syrian communities and sects in every stage of the political process, including the drafting of national solutions, peacebuilding, and guaranteeing equal rights for all citizens, considering this a foundation for building a democratic and unified Syria.
