Over the past few days, the occupied city of Girê Spî/Tal Abyad has seen a wave of popular protests against the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation and their practices targeting the region and the people’s livelihoods. Residents took to the streets demanding the dismissal of members of the so-called “Tal Abyad Local Council,” appointed by the occupation, describing them as corrupt.

Since its occupation in October 2019, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have imposed a bitter reality on the residents of Girê Spî/Tal Abyad. Today, the population is facing unprecedented challenges due to the occupation’s dominance and control over all aspects of life in the city.

The Turkish occupation has established numerous organizations and institutions that control residents’ affairs, from the health sector to water, electricity, and basic commodities. However, these bodies are ineffective and their role is limited to exacerbating the suffering of the population.

In the same context, residents continue to suffer from poor services, particularly in the electricity sector, in addition to a severe shortage of bread.
