Residents: No peace in Turkey without Democratic Constitution

With the continued absence of clear steps toward a peace process in Turkey, residents of Qamishlio stressed the necessity of including the rights of the Kurdish people and other communities in the new Turkish constitution. This, they asserted, represents the best way to guarantee coexistence and political stability in the country.

Citizen Khalil Bahram stated, "Turkey must begin taking serious steps toward the peace process and building a democratic society, as called for by leader Abdullah Ocalan, in order to achieve peace and stability between Kurds and Turks."

Bahram added, "The state's inaction in this direction could lead to significant risks, including internal political and economic division and deterioration, which could weaken the state and perhaps even lead to its partition."

For his part, citizen Lazkin Ali called for "the inclusion of the Kurdish people's rights in the new constitution and their recognition as part of Turkish national identity."

He emphasized that "peace is not achieved through war, but rather through the brotherhood of peoples between Kurds and Turks, as advocated by leader Abdullah Ocalan. Turkey can be a shared homeland for all its peoples if it commits to serious steps towards a just peace."

Citizen Khalid Othman pointed out that leader Abdullah Ocalan's initiative on February 27th affirmed the principle of coexistence.

Othman added, "The rights of the Kurdish people must be protected alongside the rights of all other peoples in Turkey. The leader seeks to include the rights of all components in the new constitution to guarantee equality and justice and promote coexistence."
