Residents: Active public participation safeguards achievements

In the message addressed by Leader Abdullah Ocalan on the occasion of the first anniversary of the “Peace and Democratic Society” call he launched on February 27, 2025, he urged all parties, including the people, to fulfill their responsibilities. In this context, our agency conducted interviews with a number of citizens in the city of Qamishlo.

Nashmiya Atallah, a resident of the city of Qamishlo, stated that the most important responsibility falling upon the people at the present stage is to strengthen social ties. She affirmed that this phase requires cohesion and solidarity “with one heart and one hand” in order to confront aggression and avoid sectarian strife.

She said that forces hostile to the Democratic Nation project seek to sow discord in accordance with a “divide and rule” policy, stressing the necessity of avoiding fratricidal fighting and preserving the relations of coexistence that have been consolidated over many long years.

For his part, Hassan Hussein, a resident of Qamishlo, emphasized the need to unify ranks and seize the opportunity to strengthen the unity of the people, stating that division does not serve the cause and that unity is the way to stand against the enemy and achieve victory.

He added that maintaining and protecting the security of society is a duty incumbent upon everyone, whether civilians or military personnel, affirming that steadfastness will lead to victory.

In turn, Mahmoud Hallak, an Arab citizen originally from Deir ez-Zor who has lived for decades in the city of Qamishlo, indicated that the responsibilities required of the people include political participation, strengthening social ties, cohesion, and rejecting division.

He stated that the thought put forward by Leader Abdullah Ocalan places the people above all else and calls for fraternity among the various components, affirming that the people of the region have lived together for long decades without discrimination, and that the current phase requires social awareness to confront any attempts to sow division.

In conclusion, Mahmoud Hallak affirmed that the people of the region have always been and remain united, calling for solidarity and the preservation of the spirit of brotherhood and coexistence in the face of all attempts at undermining it.
