Reports indicate return of 1,000 IDP families to Afrin

According to information obtained from the Afrin–Shahba IDPs Council, around 1,000 IDP families from Afrin and its surrounding areas are expected to return to their homes in the coming days.

After eight years of forced displacement caused by Turkish military operations, residents of Afrin have begun returning through organized convoys.

In this context, sources in the council, based in Qamishli, told ANHA agency that preparations are underway for a third group of returnees.

The information confirmed that the upcoming convoy is set to include approximately 1,000 IDP families from Afrin city and its towns.

So far, two groups of IDPs have already returned under the agreement reached on January 29, 2026, between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian interim government.

The first group, consisting of 400 families, returned on March 9, while the second group of 200 families made their way back on April 4.
