In a video circulated online, several young men — identifying themselves as the “Tabqa Volunteer Team” — are seen removing the slogans and writings, which had urged respect for women’s freedom and greater participation in public life.

One of the young men says in the footage that the slogans “do not align with our culture,” voicing their rejection of messages supporting women’s freedom or gender equality.

The incident comes in the wake of the Syrian Interim Government’s entry into the Raqqa region, amid ongoing political and social transformations in the area.
