Qamishlo Protest Backs Official Recognition of Kobani

The protest was held under the slogan: "Kobani is not just a name; it is an identity written in blood, a name tied to the city's history and deserving of official recognition in state documents." Dozens of young people and local residents participated.

Participants carried banners reading: "Yes to Kobanê," "Kobani is an identity, Kobani is the heart of Kurdistan," and "Kobani is the city of freedom and resistance."

The event began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. Afterwards, Ali Qamishlo delivered a speech on behalf of the youth, saying:

"The attack on Kobanê and Rojava is an attack on our identity. It targets our language and our existence. Today, the interim government is attempting to target our identity by changing the city's name."

He added:"From Qamishlo to Kobani, we reaffirm our support for the people of the city. Kobani is our identity and our history, and its name cannot be changed. It is the city of freedom and a symbol of the women's freedom movement."

He continued: "During the 2014 attacks, despite the aggression it faced, Kobani demonstrated resilience and achieved victory thanks to Kurdish youth and the people of Kobani."

Concluding his speech, he stressed that attempts to impose alternative names are unacceptable, saying: "Kobani will remain because it is the history of a people."
