Dozens of residents staged a protest in Dummar, in the Syrian capital, Damascus, today, rejecting the continued expropriation and seizure of properties and agricultural land by influential individuals, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory reported that protesters blocked major roads in the area, including the road connecting Mount Qasioun to Dummar. They called for the cancellation of expropriation decisions and the return of land to its owners or fair compensation for those affected.

The Observatory added that the protests stem from property disputes dating back decades, involving expropriation decrees and laws, including Legislative Decree No. 20 of 1983, Law No. 10 of 2018, and Decree No. 66 of 2012.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that tensions over property ownership continue in parts of Damascus and its countryside, including Dummar, Wadi Barada, and Ain al-Fijeh, amid calls for fair solutions that safeguard residents’ rights and protect their properties.
