Prisoner killed in Homs as rising insecurity

A man was killed in the prisons of the Transitional Government a few days after his arrest in the Homs countryside, while another man was killed and his child seriously injured in an armed attack in rural Hama. These incidents highlight the ongoing security vacuum in areas controlled by the Transitional Government in Syria.

A citizen named Tamer Youssef Aref, 45, from the town of Al-Qabu in western Homs countryside, was killed days after being arrested by the Transitional Government forces in Syria.

Local sources reported that he was arrested on September 21 through the Houla police station. Two days later, security forces raided his home, searched it, and stole its contents along with his private car.

Earlier today, his family was informed of his death, reportedly caused by a "stroke," before his body was delivered for burial in his village. Meanwhile, his car remained in the possession of the forces, officially transferred to one of them.

In a separate incident, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a man in his fifties was killed in a direct shooting by armed men who stormed his home on the outskirts of Kazo neighborhood in rural Hama. His child was seriously injured and transferred to a hospital. Initial reports suggest the attack was due to financial disputes.

According to statistics published by the Observatory, since the beginning of 2025, the number of criminal cases and "killings by unknown perpetrators" in areas controlled by the Transitional Government reached 291, resulting in 325 deaths: 253 men, 25 children, and 47 women.
