The Iran Human Rights Organization announced that prisoner Jamileh Azizi died in Qarchak Prison as a result of the lack of medical treatment and the authorities’ neglect of her serious illness, according to Roj News Agency.

According to reports, Jamileh Azizi had been serving a prison sentence on a “financial charge” and had long suffered from a severe illness. However, the prison administration denied her access to treatment and suspended her transfer to a hospital for more than ten days, which led to her death on September 10.

The reports also indicated that although a bail order had been issued making her release possible, delays and negligence prevented it, leaving Jamileh Azizi to pass away behind bars before she could reunite with her family.

Her death highlights the tragic reality of sick prisoners in Qarchak Prison, located in the desert east of Tehran, which is known as one of the most dangerous and worst prisons in Iran due to torture and the harsh health and psychological conditions imposed on inmates.
