Politicians, academics warn: Turkey's disregard for peace's call will exacerbate Middle East crises
Politicians and academics in the city of Ad-Darbasiyah warned that the Turkish occupation state continues to ignore the call for peace and a democratic society launched by leader Abdullah Ocalan. They stressed that failure to respond to this initiative will lead to an escalation of crises within Turkey and throughout the Middle East, at a time when the region is witnessing rapid changes and profound geopolitical shifts.

More than two months after leader Abdullah Ocalan issued his call for "peace and a democratic society," the Turkish authorities have not taken any serious steps toward peace. Politicians and academics from the city of Ad-Darbasiyah in al- Jazira canton indicated that Ankara has not yet taken any practical steps that reflect a genuine desire to achieve peace. Instead, it has continued its military attacks on Kurdish areas, ignoring an initiative that opens the door to a comprehensive solution, not only to the Kurdish issue, but to many of the intertwined regional crises.
In this context, Ahmed Suleiman, a member of the Democratic Society Academy in Ad-Darbasiyah, said that the Turkish authorities are well aware that the key to the solution lies with Leader Abdullah Ocalan. This prompted them to previously open channels of communication with him, prompting him to launch a peace initiative.
He explained that the Kurdish parties and relevant political forces expressed full readiness to make this initiative a success, but the Turkish authorities showed no real response and instead persisted with their hostile and repressive policies.
Suleiman added, "It is clear that major changes are coming to the map of the Middle East, and Turkey considers any shift in this map a threat. At the same time, however, it refuses to resolve the Kurdish issue or recognize the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people, which puts it in contradiction with any move toward peace."
Suleiman called for the release of all political prisoners in Turkey, especially Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and for radical constitutional amendments to be introduced that guarantee the rights of all ethnic and religious components of the country. He emphasized that "deceiving the Kurds is no longer possible, and the Kurds are not what they were before."
For his part, Masouj Mohammed, a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Ad-Darbasiyah, emphasized that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government and its alliance with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have caused severe economic and political crises in Northern Kurdistan and throughout Turkey. He pointed out that the ruling authorities have used repression and oppression as tools to remain in power, which has contributed to deepening internal crises.
Mohammed said, "Amid these crises, the Turkish government has turned to Leader Abdullah Ocalan as a party capable of offering a vision for a solution, but it appears that it was not serious in its pursuit of peace. What we see today is a deliberate disregard for the only opportunity that can spare Turkey and the region further destruction."
Mohammed emphasized that the leader must be granted the right to direct dialogue with all relevant parties to ensure the success of any peace process, warning that "his continued isolation and refusal to release him threatens an internal Turkish explosion and increases the fragility of the entire region."
He concluded by saying, "Leader Abdullah Ocalan's call is not a partisan or factional project, but rather a strategic vision that serves all the peoples of the region. Ignoring it not only means missing an opportunity for peace, but also deepens sectarian and ethnic divisions and pushes the Middle East toward more protracted conflict."
