Political Security forces arrest journalist in Quneitra

The Political Security forces in Quneitra have arrested a journalist on the pretext of failing to coordinate with the Media Directorate before entering official institutions.

On Monday, the Political Security forces arrested Nour Al-Hassan, a correspondent for the Lebanese online newspaper Al-Modon, after he visited the branch in Quneitra, allegedly for not coordinating with the Media Directorate before accessing official offices.

Local and media sources reported that Al-Hassan had visited the Political Security branch in Quneitra after receiving a call summoning him for questioning, only to be detained due to his journalistic activities.

For its part, Al-Modon newspaper condemned the arrest of its correspondent on Tuesday, stating that he was detained because of his media work.

The newspaper called on the relevant Syrian authorities to disclose Al-Hassan’s whereabouts and “release him immediately.”

Meanwhile, the General Security forces recently arrested journalist and media activist Hassan Zaza without any legal warrant or judicial justification, a blatant violation of basic human values as well as international laws and norms that guarantee freedom of the press and media work.
