Political activist, young man injured in Homs; academic killed in Tartus

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a man and a political activist were wounded in separate shootings in Homs, and an agricultural engineering academic was killed in Tartus countryside.

A man in his forties sustained serious injuries after being shot by armed men in a vehicle affiliated with the Syrian transitional government near Al-Farabi School in the Al-Nuzha neighborhood of Homs.

In another incident, political activist Atab Shaheen from the Al-Zahraa neighborhood in Homs was shot by forces of the Syrian transitional government.

The SOHR reported that both injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, agricultural engineering academic Haidar Younis Shaheen was assassinated Tuesday evening after being shot by an unknown armed assailant inside his home in the village of Mi’ar Shaker, Tartus countryside, according to SOHR.

These violations and crimes occur amid an unprecedented spread of weapons in areas controlled by the Syrian transitional government in Syria.
