Suspicious movements, contradictory statements amid calls for peace in Syria, Turkey

Since February 27, following the historic appeal made by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, efforts have been underway to establish peace and stability in Northern Kurdistan and Turkey, extending to Syria as well. The political arena has witnessed growing discussions on ways to achieve this goal. However, at a time when calls for a comprehensive peace process in the region are intensifying, the actions of the Turkish side have raised concerns, prompting doubts about the seriousness of the official Turkish discourse on peace and stability.

During the Turkish National Security Council meeting held on September 30, a series of escalatory decisions were issued, with the council declaring: “No form of terrorism in the neighboring geographical region will be tolerated.”

In a related context, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stated that steps in the peace process and the democratic society initiative launched by Leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27 cannot be taken unless the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are disarmed. This reflects a direct link between Turkey’s internal political process and the imposition of security and military conditions on territories beyond its control.

Simultaneously, the Syrian transitional government began constructing earthen barriers on the outskirts of the Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in Aleppo, a move that observers consider preparatory for potential military operations. Meanwhile, the Iraqi government completed the construction of a separation wall between North and East Syria and Southern Kurdistan, reflecting coordination in imposing isolation on these areas.

In a dangerous field development, groups affiliated with the Syrian transitional government, reportedly following orders from Ankara according to official military sources, launched attacks on the Deir Hafer area. These coincided with attacks by ISIS mercenaries along the river strip extending from Raqqa to Deir ez-Zor, indicating coordination between Ankara and ISIS mercenaries to achieve military objectives.

Turkey has also recently deployed mercenary groups to the areas it occupies, especially along the frontlines with North and East Syria, signaling clear preparations for a new phase of escalation.

Based on these developments, Turkey, contrary to its rhetoric of peace and stability, appears to be actively preparing to wage a new war in the region.
