People of As-Suwayda light Newroz Flame

 Coinciding with the global and Syrian Kurdish celebrations of Newroz, the people of As-Suwayda ignited the Newroz fire in Al-Karama Square on the eve of March 21. They dressed in traditional Kurdish attire and raised banners representing the heritage of Syria’s diverse communities alongside the Syrian flag, expressing their commitment to a unifying national identity.

 In this context, Dr. Lujain Hamza, one of the participants, emphasized the shared revolutionary spirit between the Kurds and the people of As-Suwayda:

 "We resist for freedom, for the right to speak our language, and to belong to political organizations that reflect our aspirations. Each of us comes from our own geographic background, but we all raise the banners of freedom and justice."

 Newroz… The Beginning of New Hope

 Activist Hafez Al-Khatib pointed out that Newroz is not just a holiday but a symbol of a new beginning, stating:

 "Newroz is spring, it is the start of hope, the lifting of darkness, and the rise of a new dawn. Today, we stand together, hand in hand, to reject any constitutional projects that do not ensure justice, and we demand a new state built on democracy and equal rights."

 Media activist Manal Kan’an stressed the significance of celebrating Newroz in southern Syria, saying: "We and the Kurds are one people—we share our celebrations and our sorrows. We aspire for peace to prevail in the country and for the end of the uncertain phase imposed by the previous regime."

 Newroz… Peace, Justice, and Unity of the Land

 One of the event organizers explained the meaning of the word Newroz, stating that it symbolizes peace, justice, spring, and renewal.

 She also emphasized that today's celebration carries a message of responsibility regarding the situation on the Syrian coast and calls for the return of those forcibly disappeared. She stressed the necessity of ending divisions and rebuilding the nation on the foundations of justice and democracy.
