Pedersen stresses the need for a comprehensive political transition in Syria

The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, demanded today from Damascus, during a press conference, that the political transition in the country include all Syrians.

He also stressed that there must be a comprehensive political transition, with the need for good preparation for the "National Dialogue" conference in Syria.

Pederson explained that there is a strong consensus to support Syria, and that they want a comprehensive transition in Syria that leads to a new constitution and fair and free elections, stressing that the Syrians must take the right path.

He added that the most important thing in the next stage is the formation of a "national army" as it is important for stability but requires calm and caution.

He pointed out that the principles of 2,254 still exist and that there are basic principles within the resolution that still exist, such as the unity of Syrian territory and the need for a comprehensive political process.

He expressed his welcome to all initiatives being taken now, including the meeting between the current authority in Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces, indicating that he is optimistic about them.

He noted that there are discussions between Turkey and the United States regarding the region of northeastern Syria, and said at a time when Turkey and its mercenaries continue to attack the region: "We are optimistic about these negotiations."
