The political bureau of the PDK–Syria denounced the statements made by U.S. envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, labeling them as “not serving public safety,” and calling them “an injustice against a key partner in the fight against terrorism,” as well as “an overstep of authority.”

Thomas Barrack, who serves as the U.S. ambassador to Turkey and special envoy to Syria, had stated that the Syrian government expressed “incredible enthusiasm” for integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions, within what he described as “one state, one nation, one army, one government.”

Barrack also criticized the performance of the SDF, claiming it was “slow in responding, negotiating, and making progress,” adding that “there is only one path forward, and that path leads to Damascus.”

Regarding the U.S. stance on the Kurdish issue, Barrack noted that former U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statements on autonomy and sovereignty did not imply in any way “an independent Kurdistan,” while expressing his respect for the Kurds, describing them as “a wonderful, amazing, and beautiful people within their countries.”

In response, the political bureau of the PDK–Syria issued an official statement today, expressing deep concern over the envoy’s remarks, stating that they “do not reflect the reality of the Syrian issue with all its complexities and threaten the peace efforts that national forces are striving to achieve.”
