Noon Initiative steps up its efforts to achieve leader’s physical freedom

The Turkish authorities extended the so-called “disciplinary sanctions” imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan on May 25, for another 6 months, in continuation of the severe isolation imposed on the leader since March 25, 2021.

Commenting on this, the coordinator and spokesperson for the Noon Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, Sawsan Shoman, confirmed that the imposed isolation is an attempt by the Turkish authorities to prevent the expansion of the leader’s thought, and that despite the legal violations, penalties, and isolation that they impose on the leader’s person, they fail to prevent his thought from spreading.

Sawsan Shoman stated that disciplinary sanctions, if we look at them from a legal perspective, we will see that the Turkish authorities impose a special law on Imrali prison that differs from the law of the Turkish state and the Turkish constitution, and is not based on any treaty or unified law with the rest of the country, as if they isolated Imrali legally and geographically from all... areas, it arbitrarily seeks to renew these sanctions without relying on any legal basis.

Noon initiative and introducing the leader’s thought

Sawsan pointed out that they, like the Noon Initiative, which is a women's initiative, have implemented many measures, based on their belief that the power of thought confronts the power of weapons.

Since its establishment on June 4, 2022, the Noon Initiative has taken advanced practical steps in terms of spreading the leader’s thought, the most recent of which was the campaign entitled “A Thousand Women... One Voice,” which was launched last April 5, in the context of the “Freedom for Leader Abdullah Ocalan” campaign. “The political solution to the Kurdish issue,” in order to form public opinion to put pressure, whether on the Turkish authorities or globally at the level of organizations or governments, to pressure the Turkish authorities through their relations with them to liberate Leader Ocalan.

According to Sawsan, these steps fall within the context of introducing women to this thought, and attracting female members from different countries who are considered the nucleus of their society and country in order to contribute in turn to spreading this thought.

Sawsan indicated that they held several seminars and conferences in Lebanon and Iraq recently, and came up with many recommendations that would spread this thought and continue the struggle in this regard.

Through their page on the Facebook platform, the initiative seeks to spread the leader’s thought despite the blackout and media blocking, according to Sawsan.

The coordinator and spokeswoman for the Noon Initiative for the Freedom of the Leader, Abdullah Ocalan, stated that they worked to expand their activity through conferences, initiatives, and seminars, by conducting remote meetings and training, via the video feature on the leader’s thought, dealing with various topics, and after a year has passed, they are training another group of female members who they received training last year, and formed a new group to train the new members on the basics that the previous members were trained on, and so on.

For face-to-face meetings and media influence

Sawsan pointed out the importance of physical meetings in expanding the scope of their work and deepening the bond between women in the region, such as the Beirut conference held last summer, which included members of the Noon Conference from various countries and resulted in important recommendations in this regard. Last month, the initiative also held another face-to-face meeting and training. For two days for members of the initiative in Iraq; It includes a large number of members of the initiative.

Noon members also participated in the global campaign for the freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan, by filming a video clip, through which they defined what this issue is and shared it with their surroundings and colleagues, with the aim of expanding the circle of awareness of this campaign, based on their knowledge of the extent of the influence of media and images in this matter.

In conclusion, Sawsan Shoman indicated that she is the coordinator of the Noon Initiative and one of its institutions. She believes that apart from their desired goal of liberating the leader physically, they have other important and detailed partial goals, namely spreading the thought of the leader who left behind thousands of Abdullah Ocalan, and she explained: “The leader he is not detained, as physical detention did not prevent his thought from spreading. Our goal is for this thought not to be detained, for it to continue and to break the restrictions and dictatorial, arbitrary, totalitarian regimes that are built on nationalism and ethnicity and do not accept difference.”

Sawsan pointed out that, as women who believe in this cause, they are doing their best to acquaint the world, and women in particular, with the leader’s thought as a sound guide who will lead them to their desired freedom and rights.
