Landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to pose a threat to residents, particularly in rural areas, where people travel through agricultural land and roads surrounding villages to meet their daily needs and earn a living.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the deaths of 269 people since the beginning of 2026 due to explosions involving explosive remnants of war and munitions. The victims included 154 men, 102 children and 13 women.
