New group of Al-Arisha Camp IDPs departs for Deir ez-Zor

As part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their areas of origin, a new group of IDPs from Al-Arisha Camp, located south of Hasaka city, departed on Tuesday for Deir ez-Zor. The return is part of the voluntary repatriation program carried out by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The 11th journey this year

According to the camp administration, this latest group included 62 families, totaling 311 individuals. This marks the 11th return trip organized by the camp administration in 2025, in ongoing coordination with UN agencies.

The camp administration emphasized that the returns are entirely voluntary, following the completion of all security screening procedures and the provision of transportation, ensuring the safety and dignity of the returnees.

Over the past several months, similar return trips have been organized for IDPs heading back voluntarily to areas such as Homs, Damascus, Hama, and Idlib, as part of the Autonomous Administration’s policy to encourage voluntary return.

It I’ worth noting that Al-Arisha Camp still hosts around 11,000 IDPs, distributed among approximately 2,100 families—most of them originally from eastern Syria, displaced either due to battles against ISIS or previous security and humanitarian conditions.
