Murals in Qamishlo to celebrate International Women's Day

The People's Municipality in Qamishlo, in coordination with a team from the "Orchid Group", completed an artistic mural in the March 12th Martyrs Stadium, on the occasion of the International Women's Day, which included pictures of a number of international female figures, confirming the continuity of women's struggle throughout history.

As part of the International Women's Day celebrations in Rojava, the People's Municipality of Qamishlo, in coordination with the Orchid Art Group, completed a mural on the wall of the March 12th Martyrs Stadium. The mural features portraits of several prominent women.

Work on the mural began on Tuesday, and it included drawings that embody women's strength and will, along with portraits of women who have made a significant impact on defending women's rights around the world, including Rosa Luxemburg, Sakine Cansız, Leyla Qasim, Gina Amini, and Simone de Beauvoir.

According to the project supervisors, the selection of these names reflects the diversity of women's experiences and the different historical and political contexts, while maintaining a unified goal of combating discrimination and violence and promoting the values of equality.

In this context, Berivan Omer; the co-chair of the People's Municipality of Qamishlo, explained that the mural aims to convey a symbolic message; women's struggle transcends borders, and that March 8th represents an annual occasion to renew commitment to the values of freedom and justice.

After the mural was completed, the female members of the municipality distributed roses to the women in the vicinity of the stadium, in a symbolic gesture to celebrate the occasion.
