Municipal elections in NE, Syria region postponed to June 11

On Saturday, the High Electoral Commission in North and East Syria announced, through a statement, the postponement of the date of the municipal elections in the North and East Syria region, which were scheduled to be held on May 30, to June 11.

The High Electoral Commission’s statement stated the following: “We are the High Electoral Commission in North and East Syria. Our primary goal is the success of the electoral process to the fullest extent, and the achievement of transparency and democracy.

Through our work in the past period, and since the time factor is a basic and very important condition for achieving our goal, we noticed that the time specified for preparing to hold municipal elections in North and East Syria, which was scheduled to be held on May 30, is insufficient.

That is why we, the High Election Commission in the North and East Syria region, decided to postpone the elections until next June 11, to set a timetable commensurate with the importance of these elections and to prepare for them well, in a way that does not conflict with the municipal elections law approved by the Democratic Peoples’ Council in North and East Syria"
