Munich Conference continues second day of activities with participation of Rojava delegation

The Munich Security Conference continues for its second day with the participation of more than 60 heads of state and 100 ministers, focusing on the future of European security and global transformations. Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces Mazloum Abdi and Co-Chair of the Department of External Relations of the Autonomous Administration Ilham Ahmed are taking part in the official discussions.

The conference proceeds with the attendance of over 60 heads of state and government, along with around 100 defense and foreign ministers, amid a strong focus on the future of European security and the challenges of energy, the economy, and technology.

European leaders affirmed that the international system is undergoing profound transformations. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated in a speech that “the rules-based order no longer exists as it once did,” stressing the need for Europe to develop an independent security strategy to confront the erosion of international norms and the growing reliance on power politics.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the “old world” is no longer in place, calling on Washington to reassess its role in the coming phase. French President Emmanuel Macron, called for full European independence from the United States, noting that transatlantic relations are passing through a period of uncertainty.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said there is a “shift in mindset” within the alliance, affirming that Europe is assuming a greater leadership role inside NATO, strengthening the link between the two sides of the Atlantic.

Amid the official discussions, the Rojava delegation, comprising Syrian Democratic Forces Commander Mazloum Abdi and Ilham Ahmed, Co-Chair of the Department of External Relations of the Autonomous Administration, is participating in the conference.

The conference, held in central Munich under tight security measures, will continue until Sunday, alongside informal meetings and closed-door sessions to discuss various security and diplomatic files.
