ANHA agency's correspondent, Jihan Belkin, was martyred on December 19, while covering the attacks of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries on the Tishreen Dam area, south of the city of Kobani, accompanied by journalist Nazim Dashtan, when occupation’s drone targeted their car on the road between the city of Sarin and the Tishreen Dam.

The family of ANHA agency's correspondent, the martyr Jihan Belkin, accepts condolences in the Midyat district of Mardin in N Kurdistan.

She had a pen in her hand, not a weapon

Jihan Belkin’s mother, Katiba Belkin, spoke to the Women’s News Agency (NUJINHA) and said: “She (Jihan) was holding a pen in her hand, not a weapon,” to which one of the women present at the funeral responded, saying: “This pen is what they are afraid of.” ".

Katiba Belkin stated that Jihan was a conscious young woman who always sought the truth despite her young age, and added, "She sacrificed her life for her people. It is your memory, so do not forget it. My daughter pursued the truth. She was very diligent in everything she did from her childhood until the moment of her martyrdom,” calling on journalists to follow in her footsteps and commemorate her memory.

Katiba Belkin  renewed her request to bring her daughter's body to be buried in the land where she was born, and continued: "My daughter sacrificed herself for her people, and no one should forget her."

Meanwhile, Zeynep Belkin, Jihan Belkin’s sister, pointed out that Jihan: “She grew up in my hands and was raised with love. She was the youngest, and we all appreciated and respected her. She was a very loving and compassionate person who never harmed anyone. She was fair and loved to do good to all people.”

Zeynep Belkin stressed that Jihan was always seeking the truth and did not abandon the oppressed people. She said: “She did not carry a weapon in her hand, but rather fought with her pen. Her goal was to reveal the facts and show them to the public, and to be on the side of the people, but she was targeted while seeking to uncover the violations of mercenaries of Turkish occupation,” stressing the importance of holding the perpetrators of these violations against journalists accountable, and she ended her speech by saying: “Our goal is peace. We do not want more blood to be shed. Jihan Bleiken always strives for this, and we will fight for this until her demands to end persecution and bring peace are achieved.”
